Terms and conditions for preferred seats

1. Preferred Seats allocation
1.1 In ‘My Trip’, during online booking or check-in, or when checking in at a self-service check-in machine at the airport, KLM offers you against an additional – depending on availability – the option to reserve a seat for an additional fee that offers you additional advantages over other seats (for example a seat in a row of two): “Preferred Seat”.

1.2 Flying Blue Platinum passengers may reserve a Preferred Seat without additional payment, while Gold and Silver members receive a discount of 50% and 25%, respectively, when logged onto KLM.com as a Flying Blue member and identified as such by KLM. In all other cases, these Flying Blue members may reserve a Preferred Seat at the regular rate.

1.3 We shall make reasonable efforts to meet your seat allocation request for a Preferred Seat but cannot guarantee the allocation of a given seat, even if the reservation is confirmed for said Preferred Seat. However, we reserve the right to assign or reassign a Preferred Seat at any time, even after boarding of the aircraft, for operational, safety or security reasons. The final decision resides with the check-in staff and the operating crew on the day of the flight.

2. Requirements and qualifications
2.1 In order to utilize a Preferred Seat, you represent and warrant that:
(I) you are at least 12 years old;
(II) you possess the legal authority to enter into this agreement and subsequently to be bound by the terms and conditions of this agreement; and
(III) when you selected to sit in the seats adjacent to the aircraft emergency exits, you have to be capable of assisting in an emergency situation and therefore have strength, dexterity, full mobility and do not take any medication that can affect these qualities as required by applicable safety laws and regulations. You are also required to sufficiently understand and speak the English language.

2.2 You further represent that all information supplied by you in order to request a certain seat is accurate and that you will not make any speculative, false or fraudulent reservation. You further represent that you will only make reservations for yourself or for another person on whose behalf you are entitled to act and which person also complies with the requirements set out in paragraph 2.1.

3. Refund
3.1 In the event the Preferred Seats is not provided to you in line your reservation, you are entitled to a refund representing the amount paid for the Preferred Seat, for that specific part of the journey, if:
(I) you were rebooked to another flight:
• upon your request, and you have purchased the same type of Preferred Seat on the new flight;
• you changed your flight and no preferred seat was available on the new flight;
• by KLM for operational reasons or because we cancelled your flight;
• because you missed your connecting flight of KLM after an inbound flight on KLM or any other SkyTeam airline and you were not provided with a similar Preferred Seat on the alternative flight;
(II) we changed the aircraft type and you were not provided with a similar Preferred Seat on the alternative flight;
(III) we used our right to assign or reassign your Preferred Seat either before or after boarding for operational, safety or security reasons.

3.2 You can request a refund by filling in a refund form.

3.3 No refund will be made if you do not meet the above-mentioned criteria.

Miscellaneous
Some Preferred Seats are in a row of only two seats, in which case chairs can not be fully reclined. With this service, we offer a seat selection in Economy Class when and if available; there are no other product characteristics differentiations from other Economy Class seats. Catering for example is standard Economy Class catering. Please note that it is possible that during your flight passengers are seated opposite Preferred Seats.
