Award Miles and Level Miles
You can earn two kinds of Miles: Award Miles and Level Miles. Award Miles add up to great offers: from Award tickets to hotel and car rental packages. Your Award Miles are valid for only 20 months. After this period, they expire. But you can extend this period of validity by booking a paid flight on AIR FRANCE, KLM or one of the SkyTeam partners at least once every 20 months. Flights booked with Award Miles will not count toward extending the period for which your Miles are valid. Level Miles take you to a higher level in Flying Blue’s membership: from Ivory to Silver, Gold or Platinum. Every year Level Miles are put back to zero in the level check at December 31st.
How to earn Miles
For most miles flown with KLM, Air France, Kenya Airways, Air Europa or any other member of SkyTeam, you are rewarded with one Award Mile and one Level Mile. If you choose to fly with one of our other airline partners, most miles flown are rewarded with one Award Mile. The total number of Miles credited to your account depends on the distance of your flight and the class you travel in. There is a minimum of 25% Award and Level Miles on most tickets for domestic flights. On most tickets for international flights, we offer you a minimum of 25% Award and Level Miles. Award tickets, Air Miles tickets and other similar tickets are not eligible for Miles. Tickets in some classes may earn fewer or no Miles. Membership levels
Flying Blue provides exclusive service in each of its four tiers of membership: Ivory, Silver, Gold or Platinum. The colour of your Flying Blue membership card represents the level you are in, which depends on the number of Level Miles you have earned. Each level offers its own benefits and privileges. And finally, to move up a level is easy: the more you travel, the higher your level.

More Elite benefits
When you have earned a certain number of Level Miles, you automatically enter the next level of membership, where you enjoy even more Elite benefits. Your Level Miles remain valid until the 31st of December in the year you have earned them. That does not mean you cannot reach a higher level before that date. As soon as you have earned a sufficient number of Level Miles, you can move up to a higher level at any time of the year.
