Children aged up to 4 years old may only travel on our flights when accompanied by an adult. For children aged 5 to 14 years old that travel alone, the booking of our Unaccompanied Minor service is mandatory. If desired, the service can also be booked for children aged 15 to 17 years.

The Unaccompanied Minor service

Stewardess with child

With this service, you can rest assured that your child will receive special care and attention throughout the journey, even in the event of delays. Your child will be continuously accompanied by our ground and cabin staff. The Unaccompanied Minor service is mandatory for children aged 5 to 14 who are travelling alone. For children aged 15 to 17, the service is not mandatory, but can be reserved if required.

During a long transit at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, your child will be accommodated in our Junior Jet Lounge. Here he/she can have soft drinks, and can enjoy computer games, films, books in various languages and a variety of toys.

At the end of the journey, we will personally accompany your child to the person you have authorised to collect him/her.

Booking the service

The Unaccompanied Minor service has to be booked before the trip begins. It can only be booked either by telephone or through your travel agent. This also applies for booking a ticket for a child aged 5 to 14 travelling alone.

If your flight is operated by one of our partners, other rules may apply to unaccompanied children. Information can be provided either by your travel agent or directly by the airline itself.

How it works

We need authorisation from you in order to accompany your child during his/her journey. This is done by completing and signing a “Handling Advice” form. You will receive this form either during the booking or at the airport before the child embarks. Please make sure that we receive this form on time so that your child can make the journey.

A child travelling alone can only check in at the airport. A parent or guardian aged 18 years or older must register the child at the check-in desk at least 2½ hours before departure. The parent or other adult who brings the child to the airport and hands him/her over to us must always remain at the airport until the aircraft has departed.

Costs

Regardless of the age of the child, the cost for the Unaccompanied Minor service is the price of an adult’s ticket, plus a service surcharge of EUR 50 for flights within Europe or EUR 75 for intercontinental flights. The surcharge is doubled for return tickets.

The supplement is automatically added to the total price of the ticket during the booking of the flight.
