Physically challenged passengers

We offer special facilities and assistance for passengers with limited mobility to ensure everybody has a safe and pleasant journey.

In wheelchair

We offer these facilities free of charge;

  • Assistance during boarding, disembarking and transfers;
  • The transport of  two pieces of mobility equipment per physically challenged passenger. This includes electric wheelchairs (provided that you submit the request at least 48 hours before departure and that the aircraft has sufficient room for it).
  • A special cabin wheelchair;
  • The company of your guide animal in the cabin, as long as it does not require an extra seat;
  • Meals that meet your dietary requirements.

Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC)

You are allowed to take the following POCs with you on board:

  • Inogen One (SFAR No. 106, Aug 11/2005)
  • Airsep LifeStyle displaying an RTCA sticker (SFAR No. 106, Aug 11/2005)
  • Airsep FreeStyle (Fed. Reg. Sep 12/06)
  • SeQual Technologies Eclipse (Fed. Reg. Sep 12/06)
  • Respironics Evergo (Fed. Reg. Sep 12/06)

  • Invacare XP02



If you bring your own POC please check in at the airport desk.

Reservation

To use your own POC on board, please make sure you:

  • make the request at least 48 hours prior to departure by calling KLM Telephone Reservations;
  • in consult with your physician provide the following information:

    • The brand and type of POC.
    • The medical need for using in-flight oxygen and the user’s capability of seeing, hearing and responding to the alarms from the POC unit.
    • The maximum oxygen flow rate corresponding to the pressure in the cabin under normal operating conditions. Please note: compared to use of a POC on the ground, use in a pressurized cabin during the flight requires about twice the amount of oxygen.
    • The duration of oxygen use in hours and minutes.

Batteries for POC

You need to bring batteries for the duration of the flight, overlay and unforeseen delays. Batteries containing Lithium can be divided in two types based on the content of Lithium:

  • Batteries containing up to 8g Lithium: these can be carried unlimited.
  • Batteries containing more than 8g but not more than 25g: 2 pieces are allowed if they are individually protected to prevent short circuit.
