Reservation fees
A reservation fee is charged for booking a KLM ticket, the amount of which depends upon the reservation method. The cheapest option is to make a reservation via www.klm.com, where there is no fee charged. Booking your flight by phone via KLM Reservations or KLM Ticket Office costs $ 75 for Economy Class and $ 175 for World Business Class per booking. In short, it pays to use www.klm.com to book your flight!
Credit card surcharge to compensate for rising costs
The fact that more and more passengers are paying for their tickets with a credit card means that KLM is being faced with rising costs. To compensate for these costs, we have no choice but to charge an additional fee for certain tickets purchased by credit card.
This surcharge:
- will not apply to tickets for infants
- will not apply for Corporate fares
- will amount to USD 10.00 per ticket for flights within Europe or USD 20.00 per ticket for intercontinental flights
- will apply to tickets purchased with any credit card
- will not apply to tickets purchased using debit cards, pay cash at office or by bank transfer.

Electronic tickets
Travelling with an e-ticket has now become the standard at KLM, offering you a wide range of benefits. E-tickets cannot be lost, forgotten or stolen, and you can check-in online via www.klm.com.
Fuel surcharge
The price of kerosene is currently high and subject to major fluctuations. Due to this, KLM needs to add a fuel surcharge to the ticket price of each flight in your journey. This surcharge is subject to developments in the oil market, and may differ per destination and the duration of the flight. The exact fuel charge per flight is always specified when booking your journey on KLM.com.
Security surcharge
The security surcharge amounts to € 5 per segment flown and is levied for insurance and security measures, as separately indicated on the ticket. Insurance premiums have risen considerably in conjunction with the increased risk of terrorist attacks. In addition, structural security measures are still being implemented in various processes onboard and at airports.
Airport tax at Schiphol
The total airport tax for flights departing from Schiphol is EUR 28.00. This figure includes the following surcharges, which KLM has to transfer to Schiphol Airport:
- security surcharge EUR 12.95
- passenger surcharge EUR 14.66
- noise surcharge EUR 2.00
These surcharges are added together as one amount in the ticket.
Airport tax at destination airports
All airports charge airport taxes on airline tickets. The exact amount depends on the destination, and is detailed separately in the total price of the ticket.
