Design students create sandwich packaging
2 May 2012 | From 1 June, your sandwiches on board our European KLM flights will be strikingly wrapped.
At the beginning of this year, KLM announced the competition ‘Delicious Art’. Students of the Avans/St Joost Schools of Art & Design in Breda (the Netherlands) were challenged to come up with a design that is culinary, surprising and energetic. Also, it needed to reflect KLM’s distinct Dutch character.
Next, we asked our Facebook friends to vote on the most original entries! Eventually, 3 designs were chosen to wrap our sandwiches on European KLM flights and KLM Cityhopper flights between 100 and 170 minutes, and on flights shorter than 100 minutes until 09:00 hours.
In the next six months we will serve a total of 5 million sets of sandwiches in these design packaging. And of course, winners Silvie Buenen, Tom van der Pijl and Agnes Loonstra will soon be able to admire their own products on board a KLM flight.

For many years now, we have been working with established names in Dutch design. For example, Marcel Wanders has created our Business Class tableware. Our crew and staff are wearing creations by fashion designer Mart Visser. And we regularly serve dinners by famous Dutch chefs.
