Reservation Fees
The least cost option is to make a reservation on klm.us where there is no booking fee.
When you book your flight by phone via Delta or Air France Reservations it costs $20 which is a non refundable fee.
Fuel Surcharge
The price of fuel is currently high and subject to major fluctuations. This situation has obliged KLM to levy a fuel surcharge on all its flight tickets. This surcharge is dependent upon developments in the oil market. The surcharge is calculated per flight segment, so it is charged on both the outbound and return trips as well as any intermediate flights. The surcharge amounts to between $100-$200 per one way. Complete details on applicable fuel surcharges per itinerary can be found in the klm.us booking tool, “Flight Overview” page.
Security Surcharge
The passenger service and security surcharge varies per segment flown and is levied for insurance and security purposes. Insurance premiums have risen considerably in conjunction with the increased risk of terrorist attacks.
Airport Charges from Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport
There is a noise abetment charge on flights leaving Amsterdam, Schiphol airport. This charge depends on the segment/itinerary flown and is aggregated as one amount in the ticket.
Airport Tax at Destination Airports
All airports charge airport taxes on airline tickets. The exact amount depends on the destination, and is shown separately in the total price of the ticket.
USA Airport Charges
The following types of fees are charged when leaving a USA airport:
- US international transportation tax
- US INS user fee
- US customs user fee
- US APHIS fee
- USA passenger facility charge
- USA passenger civil aviation security service fee
Applicable fee amounts per itinerary can be found in the klm.us booking tool, “Flight Overview“ page.
Air Passenger Tax
The ticket tax was introduced by the Dutch government last year and was a compulsory levy on all passenger flights departing from the Netherlands. The government has now announced that it will lift this tax as of July 1, 2009. KLM has decided to stop charging the tax effective the same date, July 1, 2009.
Passengers who have already purchased a KLM ticket that departs on or after July 1, 2009 will be refunded their ticket tax without being charged any administrative fees.
