KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was founded on 7 October, 1919 to serve the Netherlands and its colonies. KLM is today the oldest airline still operating under its original name. KLM has been part of the AIR FRANCE KLM group since the merger in 2004.

KLM has taken the initiative for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the airline sector. CSR is more than just a label for KLM. By signing the United Nation’s Global Compact, KLM has contributed to the UN Millennium Development Goals. Subsidiaries transavia.com and Martinair KLM subsidiary operates European scheduled and charter services in the ‘low cost, low fare’ market. Martinair is a cargo operator and, until the end of 2011, also a passenger operator in the international leisure market.
