Things to do in Nice

Admire iconic 20th-century artworks by Matisse and Chagall in Cimiez and by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Central Nice. In Western Nice, you'll be wowed by the onion-shaped domes at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral and by four centuries of European Art at the Beaux-Arts Museum. Matisse Museum

Renowned 20th-century artist's home

The Matisse Museum houses an impressive collection of works spanning his career from colourful nudes such as the famous Portrait of Madame Matisse to photographs, sculptures and gouaches. This burgundy-red mansion in leafy Cimiez used to be the artist's home.

Chagall Museum

Biblically inspired masterpieces

Created by Marc Chagall in the 1970s, the Chagall Museum in Cimiez is devoted to his biblically inspired artworks, complete with violin-playing goats and acrobats on horseback. After browsing the 450 works, enjoy a snack at the pretty garden café.

Four centuries of art

Housed in a beautiful 19th-century mansion in western Nice, the Beaux-Arts Museum spans four centuries of European fine art. As well as an important Dufy collection, there are Monet paintings, Rodin sculptures and Picasso ceramics.

Russian Orthodox Cathedral

Ornate domed cathedral

A prominent landmark in Western Nice, the Russian Orthodox Cathedral is an ornate confection of red bricks and onion-shaped domes. Built by Tsar Nicolas II in 1859, it's the finest religious edifice of the Orthodoxy outside Russia.

Promenade des Anglais

Belle époque boulevard

The five-kilometre Promenade des Anglais in Central Nice owes its name to the wealthy British who wintered here in the 1900s. Join the locals roller-blading down this boulevard, and admire the palm trees, Belle-Époque architecture and Mediterranean Sea.
