The 3 trumps of the Yarra Valley

East of Melbourne, just one hour away lies the Yarra Valley, the beautiful area where many of Australia’s famous wines come from. The Yarra River flows gently towards Hobsons Bay, winding its way through the fertile land that is home to some of Australia’s wonderful wildlife. The intriguing platypus is just one of the animals that lives here.

The valley is an epicurean paradise; in addition to outstanding chardonnays and pinot noirs, the region also produces various other delicacies. Visit the lively farmers’ markets where stalls are stacked with fresh fruit, fine chocolates and spicy cheeses. But the region’s natural beauty and the many activities are also a major attraction. Your senses will work overtime in Victoria’s loveliest valley.

A bird’s-eye view

The Yarra Valley offers a lot more than just vineyards: the rugged beauty of its flora and fauna are worth a visit too. Enjoy a ride through the Yarra Ranges National Park, the Toolangi State Forest or Kinglake National Park and enjoy the beautiful views. For an aerial view of the valley, conclude your day of sightseeing with a spectacular flight in a hot-air balloon.

The valley’s most bizarre inhabitant

The Yarra Valley is home to several typical Australian animals, such as koalas, kangaroos, dingoes and wombats. The most intriguing creature is the platypus. Visit the Healesville Sanctuary to learn more about this unique animal. During this ‘encounter’, you actually go into the water to play with the platypus. You can also feed the animal.
