Gold roofs and underground shops
One of the finest buildings in Kyiv is undoubtedly Saint Sophia’s Cathedral with its truly stunning gold and green roofs. There is a huge mosaic of a praying Virgin Mary in the central dome of the church – it is said that as long as this mosaic exists, so will Kyiv. Make sure you also visit Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti), the main plaza of the city and principal meeting place for young and old alike. Under the square is a huge shopping centre with no less than 7 floors. Kyiv is the ideal destination for a city trip and the perfect starting point for a longer holiday in Ukraine.
