The sunny weather and stunning nature make Cape Town a popular golfing destination. No wonder the country has so many golf champions! If you fancy teeing off towards Table Mountain, there are plenty of options and a variety of spectacular greens in the immediate surroundings.
Some of the best and most beautiful courses in South Africa are located along the Garden Route, a picturesque region that runs from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth in the East Cape. Many of the courses were designed by renowned golf architects. A golf buggy may be superfluous: there’s nothing more enjoyable than walking from one hole to the next and enjoying views of the impressive mountains and vast ocean.
Near the coastal town of George, you’ll find the Fancourt Golf Estate which features various courses, each with their own unique character. The Links at Fancourt, for example, is extremely challenging, designed, among others, by Gary Player, one of South Africa’s most famous golfers. Building the fairways took no less than 700,000 cubic metres of soil to create a perfect rolling landscape and the result is a true masterpiece. This course always comes with a brisk sea breeze, making a hole-in-one even more of a challenge!

The fairways and greens of Pezula Golf Estate are located in astoundingly beautiful surroundings on top of the cliffs of Knysna. On one side you’ll see the Indian Ocean, while the other offers views of the Knysna lagoon. The 18-hole course has won a variety of awards and is also very competitive. It’s even suitable for the less experienced golfer: each hole offers a tee that best suits your level of expertise.
