Peruse the local markets
Looking for bright African fabrics, traditional medicine or pots? The markets of Accra offer a wonderful variety of products. The Makola Market is the best known but Kaneshie Market also offers great shopping, especially if you are looking for typical African beads. And don’t be afraid to bargain! Those who visit Accra in August or September are in for a treat. During the Homowo Festival people celebrate for weeks by drumming and dancing in the streets. The twin parade is a unique experience! Accra is not only perfect for a city trip but also makes a great starting point for a longer holiday in West Africa. Expect to be surprised:

Dancing on the beach
To escape the hustle and bustle of the city, visit Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. This serene park was founded in tribute to Ghana’s first president. Visit his bronze statue or the mausoleum where the president and his wife lie in state. Or relax by the splashing fountains. Looking to cool off? Grab a minibus, known as trotro, and head to one of the beaches. The best known beaches are Bojo Beach and Labadi Beach, where musicians, dancers and acrobats offer entertainment. Conclude the day with a drink in one of the fun beach bars.
