Medieval buildings and ghost stories
Many medieval buildings and monuments have been very well preserved inside the city walls of Southampton. The history of the Tudor House and Garden Museum goes back to 1150. The museum provides an overview of the history of Southampton. The building is also said to be haunted. Staff and visitors have often felt the presence of ghosts and dogs refuse to enter certain rooms. It is not only the Tudor House that is known for its ghosts. You will find many haunted houses around the city. More than 21 ghosts sightings have been reported in The Red Lion pub alone. The city’s most famous ghost, the chambermaid Molly, still haunts the Dolphin Hotel. Spotlight on the Titanic
Southampton is home to numerous museums, ranging from the City Art Gallery with contemporary art to the Solent Sky Museum, which showcases the city’s aviation history. But the city’s most famous museum is without a doubt the SeaCity Museum. Here you will find a permanent exhibit on the Titanic. On 10 April 1912, the ship departed on its fatal voyage from Dock 4 in the harbour of Southampton. No other city was hit as hard by the tragedy as Southampton. More than 500 households lost a family member. The exhibit highlights the stories of the cooks, sailors, night guards and other crew members who perished that night. The museum provides an impressive depiction of the tragedy.
