Olympic skiing in Calgary

In 1988 the Winter Olympics were held in Calgary. A visit to the Olympic Park, just 15 minutes from downtown Calgary, is highly recommended. In winter, the site offers fabulous skiing, snowboarding and the chance to test the bob sled track. At night, unwind in one of the many ‘cowboy bars’ that pack the centre of Calgary.

Powder snow is much sought after by skiers, and Calgary’s ski resorts are famous for offering plenty of it. With its bone-dry air, Banff is not only one of the most beautiful national parks in Canada but is also famous for its perfect powder snow. Encompassing 6,641 square kilometres of valleys, forests, glaciers, rivers and mountains, the park is nicknamed the Pearl of the Rockies. This is the second largest ski area in Canada; the ski season here lasts up to 6 months!
Banff features 3 ski regions: Banff Mount Norquai, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise. The highest peaks range from 2,133 to 2,730 metres, and each area has its own snowboard park. A Tri Area ski pass gives you access to all 3 regions.
