Taxis provide a convenient means of getting around the city, although few drivers speak English. Travellers are advised to have their destination written or printed out in Chinese - hotel staff are often helpful in this regard. Several kinds of motorcycle taxis are also available for more adventurous commuters. Local buses are useful for travel to attractions such as the Nansham Tourism Zone and the End of the Earth. Long-distance buses regularly travel between Sanya and the other cities on Hainan Island. Travel to the mainland can be done by trains that travel to Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing on a daily basis.
Electrical current is 220 volts, 50Hz. Plug types vary, but the two-pin flat blade and oblique three-pin flat blade plugs are common. Adapters are generally required.
China's currency is the Renminbi Yuan (CNY), which is divided into 10 jiao or 100 fen. Make sure you exchange your leftover Yuan before returning home because you may have difficulty exchanging the currency outside China's borders. Foreign cash can be exchanged in cities at the Bank of China. Banks are closed weekends. The larger hotels and the special 'Friendship Stores' designed for foreigners will accept most Western currencies for purchases. Major credit cards are accepted in the main cities, but acceptance may be limited in more rural areas. ATMs are scarce in rural areas.
The international dialling code for China is +86. Phone cards are widely available and calls can be made from post offices and hotels; phone booths on the streets are usually for local calls only. In hotels, local calls are generally free or will be charged only a nominal fee. Mobile phone networks are very advanced and Chinese networks have roaming agreements with most non-North American international operators. Internet cafes are available in most main towns.

Airport buses are available from 10am to 8pm, with a bus departing every hour. From 6am to 10:30pm there is a bus every half an hour. Public buses cost around CNY 5 per person for a single trip.
Car rental companies represented at the airport include China Auto Rental, eHi Car Rental, Anji Car Rental, Hainan Leyou International Travel Agency, HNA Safe Car Rental and Shentong Car Rental.
Taxis to downtown are available from the designated taxi pickup area located outside the domestic terminal. A single trip to town costs around CNY 60.
The terminals are within easy walking distance of one another.
Airport facilities include restaurants, shopping, wheelchair facilities, banks, ATMs, currency exchange, a smoking room, baby care room, and first aid. The airport also has a VIP lounge and business lounge.
The domestic parking lot provides parking for 527 cars, the international terminal parking lot has 155 parking spaces and the VIP terminal parking lot provides parking for 131 vehicles. Parking is free for the first ten minutes, CNY 6 for the first hour and CNY 3 for each additional hour up to a daily maximum of CNY 30. The overnight parking lot costs CNY 20 for the first 24 hours and CNY 12 for each additional 12 hours.
Free wifi access is available at Sanya Phoenix International Airport throughout the Domestic Terminal, International Terminal, and VIP Terminal.
