Book flights to Xiamen and discover one of the most pleasant cities in China. Daily life here is considerably calmer than in most other Chinese cities. Maybe it’s the seafront and the hilly landscape or the beautiful beaches, parks and botanical gardens. At any rate, the city is relaxed and it shows. Moreover, there is plenty to do. How about an excursion to Kah Kee Park which is full of fascinating Chinese temple pagodas? Or a visit to Hulishan Fort where you’ll learn a lot about the military history of China?
Xiamen is known as one of the most romantic destinations in China. Xiamen is a city of sweet nothings: many newly married Chinese couples come to south-east China for their honeymoon. And Xiamen really is romantic. The nearby Gulangyu Island, for instance, where there is no motorised traffic, features wonderful coastlines and ingenious gardens with stone footbridges. This is a wonderful setting for leisurely strolls accompanied by piano music echoing from old villas and narrow streets. Xiamen is the ideal destination for a fairy-tale honeymoon and a perfect starting point for a tour of China. Experience it for yourself: book a flight to Xiamen now!
At first glance, Xiamen appears modern, sometimes even European. The port city has greatly expanded in recent decades, with modern high-rise buildings, wide roads and lovely city parks. While the city is relatively young by Chinese standards – less than 700 years – much of its heritage has fortunately been preserved. Due to this, you can get a wonderful overview of the city's history. For example, the 1,000-year-old Nanputuo Temple is located against rocky hills at the foot of the nearby Wulao Peaks. This Buddhist temple is still in full operation: hundreds of monks study, chant and pray in the ornate complex every day. Do not hesitate to have a chat: they are very open and happy to talk. Or get to know Koxinga (1624-1662), a military leader of the Ming Dynasty who is honoured as a hero in China. His giant stone statue stands on a rock on Gulangyu Island, looking over the sea to the city of Xiamen.
