Getting around the city

Trondheim has an extensive public transport system which serves a large proportion of its citizens as well as tourists. AtB, the local public bus company, makes travel within and between Trondheim and surrounding areas convenient, offering routes throughout the region. Bus tickets, as well as tickets for the Trondheim Tramway, can be bought at AtB customer service centres or ticket machines throughout the city. An attraction in its own right, the tramway runs west to Lian, a popular recreational area which offers visitors a chance to get closer to nature. Trondheim is linked to its airport and other areas of Norway by Norwegian State Railways (NSB) which has stations in most parts of the country. There are also public bicycles available for tourists and residents between May and October, which can be found in one of several bicycle racks across the city.

Local time is GMT +1 (GMT +2 between the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October).

Electricity

Electrical current is 230 volts, 50Hz. Round two-pin plugs are in use.

Currency

The official currency is the Norwegian Krone (NOK), divided into 100 ore. Larger establishments accept major credit cards. Use of credit cards is widespread, with Eurocard/Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Diners Club the most common. Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks and major post offices, as well as many hotels and travel agents, although for poorer rates. ATMs are available in all towns and cities.

Communication

The international access code for Norway is +47. Local operators provide GSM 900 mobile phone networks and cover most of the country. Internet cafes are widely available.

Getting to the city

The airport is located in the immediate vicinity of Værnes Station, and trains depart regularly. The journey to Trondheim takes about 35 minutes. Nettbuss/Flybussen buses depart the terminal regularly on weekdays, and Værnes Ekspressen also offers regular service.

Car rental

Car rental offices are located outside the parking garage, and are operated by Avis, Budget, Hertz, Europcar, and Sixt.

Airport taxi's

Metered taxis are available from the airport. Trøndertaxi offers pre-booked fixed fares from the airport.

Facilities

The terminal provides several ATMs and internet banking service terminals, a hotel with meeting rooms and conference facilities, baggage lockers, disabled services, duty-free shopping, a lost and found, a tax refund desk, and a number restaurants.

Parking

Covered parking in the garage is available at a rate of NOK 50 per hour, NOK 270 per day, or NOK 950 for a week (NOK 420 for each consecutive week). Cheaper rates are available in the Economy parking area, or in the low price outdoor parking area, located further from the terminal. Charging stations for electric cars are available.

Internet

Free wifi is available in two-hour increments via the 'AIRPORT' network.
