Kristiansand is fairly flat and compact, and many visitors choose to navigate the downtown area by foot. City buses operate throughout the city, with lines going east, west, and north throughout the day (although they are less frequent in the evenings and on weekends). There is a night bus service on Fridays and Saturdays. Taxis are available but rather expensive. If travelling frequently into the suburbs and out of town, hiring a car is the best option.

The official currency is the Norwegian Krone (NOK), divided into 100 ore. Larger establishments accept major credit cards. Use of credit cards is widespread, with Eurocard/Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Diners Club the most common. Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks and major post offices, as well as many hotels and travel agents, although for poorer rates. ATMs are available in all towns and cities.

Local buses are available to central Kristiansand, Lillesand, Grimstad and Arendal. The airport express, Agder Flyekspress, also offers a shuttle to Arendal.
Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt have car hire facilities at Kristiansand Airport.
Agder Taxis and Taxi South offer fixed-price rides to and from the airport.
The airport features shops, several bars and restaurants, a conference centre, bank, lost and found, disabled services, and a tax refund desk.
Short-term parking (P1) is located in front of the terminal, and costs NOK 40 per hour. P2 offers rates of NOK 40 per hour and NOK 230 per day, and is within walking distance of the terminal. P3 has hourly rates of NOK 25, daily rates of NOK 190, and weekly rates of NOK 600. The cheapest long-term parking is located in P5, and costs NOK 400 for a week with days in addition to full weeks at NOK 60 per day.
Kristiansand provides free wifi for two hour sessions, on the AIRPORT network.
