KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is launching a new service to Lusaka in Zambia. Starting on 15th May 2012, flight KL561 will depart from Schiphol on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 12:30 hrs, arriving to Lusaka the same day at 22:10 hrs. The return flight, KL562, will depart from Lusaka at 23:55 hrs on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights and arrive to Amsterdam at 09:55 hrs the next morning.

Zambia is experiencing strong growth, thanks to its vigorous mining industry. Moreover, this new destination for KLM will create a direct link between Zambia's flourishing flower industry and the Netherlands, which is the largest junction in the worldwide flower industry. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will begin operating scheduled service to Xiamen International Airport in China on 27 March 2011. KLM is the first airline to offer direct flights between Xiamen and Europe. 

Xiamen is the second-largest city in the province of Fujian and has a population of 3 million inhabitants. Owing partly to its favourable geographical location, Xiamen is undergoing rapid economic growth, attracting large international corporations. The city is also a tourist destination with interesting cultural and historical highlights.

Effective 27 March 2011, KL will launch double daily Fokker 70 service to Aalborg (AAL) in Denmark. Aalborg is KLM’s third Danish destination, besides Billund and Copenhagen, and KLM is the first airline to offer a direct service between Aalborg and Amsterdam. Aalborg is located in the northern part of the country, called Nordjylland, which is known for its beautiful nature and beaches.

Rio de Janeiro

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will begin operating 3 x weekly scheduled service to Rio de Janeiro on 1 November 2011. Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city of Brazil. It is the most visited city in the Southern hemisphere and known for its natural settings, carnival celebrations, samba, bossa nova, and balneario beaches such as Barra da Tijuca, Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon.

The 2016 Summer Olympics will take place in Rio de Janeiro, which will mark the first time a South American city hosts the event. Rio's Maracanã Stadium will also host the final match for 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Effective 31 October, KLM will launch two weekly flights to Punta Cana.
