Special seating requests

You can request several special seating options when flying with us. Some requests can be done via the KLM Customer Contact Centre and others can be easily done online or offline by yourself.

Passengers of size

We have special arrangements for our passengers of size. To ensure everyone on board has a comfortable and safe flight, all passengers should be able to effortlessly move the arm rests of their seat on board up and down. The space in between arm rests per aircraft type:

Airbus A330:
  • 46 cm (18 inch) in Economy Class and Economy Comfort zone
  • 50 cm (20 inch) in Business Class

Boeing 747:
  • 44 cm (17.5 inch) in Economy Class and Economy Comfort zone
  • 50 cm (20 inch) in Business Class

Boeing 777:
  • 43 cm (17 inch) in Economy Class and Economy Comfort zone
  • 50 cm (20 inch) in Business Class

Boeing 787-9:
  • 43 cm (17 inch) in Economy Class and Economy Comfort zone
  • 53 cm (21 inch) in Business Class

Boeing 737:
  • 43 cm (17 inch) in Economy Class and Economy Comfort zone
  • 43 cm (17 inch) + empty seat next to you in Business Class

Embraer 175/190:
  • 45 cm (18 inch) in Economy Class and Economy Comfort zone
  • 45 cm (18 inch) + empty seat next to you in Business Class

If you compromise a portion of the adjacent seat(s) on a KLM operated flight, we advise you to book a second adjacent seat in advance.

In the interest of safety, if you have not booked a second adjacent seat and no second seat is available in the same travel class on your flight, you may not be allowed to travel if your size does not permit you to sit properly in a single seat.
A second adjacent seat can only be purchased by calling KLM Customer Contact Centre. You will receive a 25% discount on the second seat. If, upon departure, another seat was available in the same travel class on your flight, you can apply for a refund of the costs of the second seat.

If you have booked two seats, a specific pair of seats will be assigned to you. When you log on to My Trip, you can’t view or change these seats online. Before departure, you should check in at the check-in desk at the airport. You may bring the amount of luggage as stated on your ticket. If you purchased a second adjacent seat, the standard baggage allowance for 1 passenger still applies. You can find this on your ticket. You can arrange extra luggage when checking in at the desk at the airport. Read more about your baggage.

Seats for babies and children

Want to book a seat for a child? In most cases, you can book a seat the same way you can book for an adult, both online and offline. But there are a few exceptions, for example, if you’re travelling with more than one baby or if your child needs the Unaccompanied Minor service. Read more about (booking) seats for children.

Group travel – 10 or more seats

Would you like to book 10 or more seats on the same flight? KLM offers you the advantage of competitive group fares, flexible ticketing options and dedicated support in booking your group’s travel. Group travellers can choose regular seats free of charge for everyone in their group from 8 days before departure until check-in closes.
