Flying comfortably as a passenger of size

We strive to accommodate everyone's needs to the best of our ability. For passengers of size, we recommend the following options.

Seat selection

When booking your flight, we encourage you to choose a seat that offers extra space and comfort. Our Premium Comfort Class and Business Class seats provide additional width and legroom. Alternatively, you may consider selecting an aisle seat for more lateral space.

Space between armrests

All our passengers should have a comfortable flight. To ensure this, you need to be able to move the armrests of your seat up and down. The space in between armrests varies per aircraft type.

On flights operated by KLM, the space in between armrests in Economy Class is as follows:

  • Airbus A330: 46 cm
  • Boeing 777: 43 cm
  • Boeing 787-9: 43 cm
  • Boeing 787-10: 41,5 cm
  • Boeing 737: 43 cm
  • Embraer 175 and 190: 45 cm

On flights operated by KLM, the space in between armrests in Premium Comfort Class is between 48 and 50 cm.

On flights operated by KLM, the space in between armrests in Business Class is as follows:

  • Airbus A330: 50 cm
  • Boeing 777: 51 cm
  • Boeing 787-9: 53 cm
  • Boeing 787-10: 51 cm
  • Boeing 737: 43 cm (and an empty seat next to you)
  • Embraer 175 and 190: 45 cm (and an empty seat next to you)

Seat belt extenders

The seat belt length on KLM flights depends on your travel class:

  • between 107 cm and 155 cm in Economy Class
  • 124 cm in Premium Comfort Class
  • between 124 cm and 148 cm in Business Class

If you need a seat belt extender, you can ask our crew on board to provide you with one. These add 63 cm to the seat belt length. Because of safety, you cannot use your own seat belt extender. Please note that the extension belt cannot be used in exit row seats due to safety regulations.

Additional seat option

For those who prefer more personal space, we offer the option to purchase an additional adjacent seat at a discounted rate. This can be arranged during the booking process or by contacting our customer service team. The cost of an extra seat is typically 75% of the fare of the original seat. Please note that prices may vary depending on the route and class of service.
