Extra baggage conditions
1. Taking extra baggage
1.1 When booking a flight, when checking in online and via My Trip, KLM offers the possibility of taking extra pieces of baggage above the baggage allowance at an extra fee, on the basis of the conditions of your ticket.
1.2 Please note that when departing from some airports, it is not possible to arrange extra baggage on KLM.com. In that case, please go to the desk at the airport to arrange extra baggage.
2. Conditions applying to pre-purchased extra baggage
2.1 The pre-purchased extra baggage can only be used in combination with the ticket you bought the extra baggage for. The pre-purchased extra baggage is personal and non-transferable. 2.2 The pre-purchased extra baggage is valid for a one-way journey (outbound or return journey) to the place of the stopover or the final destination, and exclusively for flights with KLM. 2.3 KLM’s General Conditions of Carriage are an integral part of these conditions. 2.4 You are required to ensure that all the information you provide when making your reservation and purchasing the pre-purchased extra baggage is complete.
3. Refund
3.1 You are entitled to a refund of the specific costs of your pre-purchased extra baggage, if:
(I) KLM is unable to operate your flight, or (II) the baggage for which you have bought the pre-purchased extra baggage allowance is lost and is not found within a reasonable length of time.
3.2 You are not entitled to a refund if you decide to cancel your flight or take less baggage with you than you are entitled to on the basis of your pre-purchased extra baggage. If you decide to take more baggage than the total allowance, including the pre-purchased extra baggage, you pay the normal excess baggage fee for the excess amount.
3.3 If you are able to change your flight on the grounds of the fee conditions applicable to your ticket, then your pre-purchased extra baggage allowance will remain valid in combination with your amended ticket.
3.4 A refund request may only be submitted through our website.

In these Terms and Conditions, unless otherwise indicated by the context, the following terms and expressions are defined as follows:

After purchase, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to the Customer. See the rates or the equivalent in local currency on the Website; price rounded and dependent on the exchange rate, revised twice a year.
"Terms and Conditions": these terms and conditions which define the terms and conditions of sale of the Hand Baggage Option.
2.1. The Hand Baggage Option is intended exclusively for Customers wishing to carry one piece of hand baggage in addition to the baggage allowance authorised by their Economy Basic fare ticket.
2.2. Customers holding an Economy Basic ticket may purchase one – and only one – Hand Baggage Option for the Eligible Flight(s).
3.1. The Hand Baggage Option can only be purchased and used in combination with an Economy Basic ticket for which the Option has been acquired. The Hand Baggage Option is personal and non-transferable.
3.2. The purchase of the Hand Baggage Option allows the Customer to carry a maximum of one (1) piece of Hand Baggage which, in the event of a full flight, will be placed in the hold. Acceptance of Hand Baggage in the cabin is not guaranteed.
3.3. The Hand Baggage Option is valid for a one-way journey, outbound or return, up to the stopover or final destination, and exclusively for flights operated by KLM and/or Air France. The Option is exclusively associated with a flight segment or a one-way journey, and not with the entire round trip.
3.4. The information provided for booking the Hand Baggage must be accurate and complete.
3.5. It is possible to purchase a Hand Baggage Option:
- when purchasing the ticket online;
- at any time after ticket purchase and up to 4 hours before flight departure, in the My Trip section of the Website;
- during online check-in, up to 4 hours before flight departure;
- via the Customer Contact Center (call centers and social networks), up to 4 hours before flight departure.
3.6. The Hand Baggage Option cannot be purchased:
- if the allowance of one (1) piece of Hand Baggage has already been reached for the Customer, via paid purchase, ticket allowance, or special benefits;
- for the transport of an animal in the cabin (specific fees apply);
- for the transport of items not complying with the weight and/or dimensions of Hand Baggage.
When booking a Hand Baggage Option, Customers may pay by credit card, and for Flying Blue program members, by Miles, or Miles and Cash.
5.1. KLM will endeavor to honor the reservation of the Hand Baggage Option made in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. However, the Customer is informed that KLM may be required, in particular for operational reasons related to safety and/or security, to modify the reservation of the Hand Baggage Option. In this case, the Customer who was unable to benefit from the reserved Hand Baggage Option in accordance with these Terms and Conditions will be refunded the price of the Option according to the terms defined in Article 5.2.
5.2. Customers are entitled to a refund of the price of the Hand Baggage Option if:
- the Hand Baggage Option could not be provided, in particular due to flight cancellation;
- the Hand Baggage concerned by the Option was checked in the hold and delivered with a delay of more than 3 hours or lost.
5.3. The Customer is not entitled to a refund if they decide to carry fewer pieces of Hand Baggage than allowed under the cabin baggage allowance or if they decide not to travel (voluntary cancellation by the passenger).
5.4. Any refund request must be made exclusively via My Trip on the Website.
5.5. The price of the Option will be refunded in accordance with the provisions of this article within a maximum period of 30 days from receipt by KLM of all the information necessary to process the refund, except in exceptional crisis periods.
KLM shall not be held liable and shall not be deemed to have breached its obligations in the event of non-provision of all or part of its services defined in the Terms and Conditions herein if such failure is due to force majeure, as defined or interpreted by the applicable country law. In this case, the Customer shall not be entitled to claim any compensation, damages, or interest for any direct or indirect damage suffered as a result of the failure to provide the services.
7.1. Flying Blue members may benefit from certain advantages regarding Hand Baggage:
- Ultimate, Platinum, Gold, and Silver members holding a valid Economy Basic ticket are entitled to one (1) free piece of Hand Baggage on flights operated by KLM and Air France. They are therefore not permitted to purchase the Hand Baggage Option.
- Flying Blue members may use their Miles to purchase a Hand Baggage Option.
7.2. The Flying Blue status must be valid at the time of airport check-in in order to be taken into account.
KLM reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. The purchase of the Option shall be subject to the Terms and Conditions in force at the time of booking, unless a change to these Terms and Conditions is required by law or a governmental authority (in which case this change will also apply to all orders already placed).
